1945WinterNear St. Paul, February 22, 1943, (Longley and Harrell); same region, December 28, 1941, (Brother Hubert Lewis). AMERICAN ROUGH- LEGGED HAWK. Present throughout almost every winter in the Minnesota valley near Minneapolis.
1946Summer3 so large young, June 2, Washington Co., Longley; May 13, 3 young, Hennepin Co., Eldeen and Don Jacobs. The fact that as many nests of this bird as of the red-tailed hawk have been found in the last six years may be explained by the concentration of observers in the southeast and central part of the state where the red-shoulder is most common. The first nest of this species was found in 1934.
1961SummerOn 30 March, R. Grant saw a pair adding fresh twigs to a nest used three of the last four years in Ramsey County. Dave Pearson reports a nest nine miles north of Anoka, Anoka County; no date given.

1967Springobservers in Iowa have commented on the scarcity of this species in their state during the past four or five years so it comes as a surprise that this March we had records from Washington, Olmsted, Winona, Stevens, Stearns, Goodhue, Wabasha, Dakota, Hennepin and Carver Co's., plus Fargo-Moorhead; in THE LOON 88 April it was reported from Nobles, Anoka and Hennepin Co's.; in May it was reported from Goodhue, Wabasha and Lake Co's. (5-3 Two Harbors, 1, RK).
